Details of editing
 Daniel Deutrom
 Long shot
Inside in front of a window so that I can get as much light as possible. I will be standing at least a meter away so that I don’t get any shadow on his face and that I can prevent over exposure

The background does not matter because I will be editing it in Photoshop because I want just a plain black background. The only prop will be the electric guitar that he will be holding in his hands. There will be no eye contact with the camera because I wanted it to be a natural shot. He will be very casually dressed to show that he is very laid back and the main focus is his music.
TOC feature article about “ Daniel stone out of rehab”
This will be the first column on the left hand side of the page, because it will be underneath the first picture that you see which is him. There will be a bit about the article underneath.
For the editing I will be using the magnetic lasso tool to cut around Daniel and then I will right click to select the inverse and delete that to put it on a plain black background.

 Lucus Ant
 Close up
This will be inside a recording studio where there is not much light so I will have to use a flash to  get more light into the lens of the camera. But I don’t want to have over exposure.

The background of this image is going to be the recording decks in the room because I wanted to make the music the full focus of the image because this is a music magazine.
TOC feature article about “luke worrel out of rehab” this will be on the right hand side of the page because it is only one of the featured stories.
There will be no editing in this picture because the lighting is fine and I want to keep the background. Also this photo will be quite small anyways so the reader will not take much notice of it because the bigger picture will be where the article is.

Lucy Cornelius

 Close up
This photo will be outside and in quite bright daylight in Lucys garden. I will not be using the flash because enough light will be getting into the camera lens already because it’s very bright.

The background of this image will not be seen much because it is a close up of her face. The background will be blurred because I changed the focus of the camera to do that.
TOC feature article about “ gone solo” this will be the top article on the right side of the page because this is the main feature of this magazine.
I will not do much editing on this picture because it is already quite bright and it is genuinely a nice picture so if I edited it  would just look fake and that does not go with the connotations of the image.

Planning

Planning the Front Cover Image
Agency Name

STING  Magazine
Model

Lucy Cornelius
Camera height/angle/distance

Close up
Location

House

Lighting/Macro/Flash

The lighting to this photo will be quite natural daylight coming in from a window in her house. There will be no flash because I want the picture to look natural.
Mise-en-scene (incl. props, costume)

No musical props. She will be wearing a black vest top. A black plain hat. Due to it being a medium/ close up shot it will not show anything below the waist, just like my inspiration magazines.
Background

Plain room. White background because I want the main focus to be on Lucy, I don’t want anything that is too distracting. Also seeing as the background of my magazine is white it would make sense to have a white background when taking the photo.
Attempted connotation

She’s smiling because she is happy that she is back doing what she loves doing. Having her back turned away from the camera says that she is leaving something behind but because her face is turned towards the camera it’s as if she’s starting something new. So it’s not all bad.
Planned denotation

Lacey hart has gone solo; she is by herself in the photo to show she is now on her own and doing things for herself in her career. She is wearing black so that she stands out of the background of the magazine.

Contingency (in case of model absence/weather)

The weather could be a problem if it is not as sunny outside so not enough light will be getting into the camera but, in case this happens there will be a dim lamp that I could have in the room which would give more of a warmer colour to the photo like the natural light would have done. In case the model is absent I will have a substitute (Lauren Cornelius) who would take her place.

Alternate angle

An alternate angle to this would be an extreme close up of just the face and shoulder. I would choose this one because it is the closest one to my original idea, also most of the models from the magazine that inspired me are close up images.

Thinking points: Rule of thirds, White background shot

Comments:
I will be using a Nikon D80 for my photos. The lens is 18-55 mm. The focal length for the front cover will be 26mm. I will make the ISO 1000 and the F stop will be 4. The shutter speed will be made to 1/40 because I didn’t need as much light to get into the camera because it was already quite bright in the room.

She’s smiling in this photo because she has gone solo and she is back doing what she loves to do which is her music. She is smiling also because it shows that she is a friendly and genuinely nice person.

Comments:
I will be using a Nikon D80 for my photos. The lens is 18-55 mm. The focal length for the double page spread will be 28mm. I will make the ISO 200 and the F stop will be 4. The shutter speed will be made to 1/60 because that is a very average shutter speed to use for a normal picture.
